Session

Zero to Game Designer in 60 Minutes

In this session I will demonstrate some magic spells that designers and developers can use to power-up their games with better gameplay and visuals. I will show you techniques that can make your Flash games more sophisticated, more polished, and most of all more fun.

With the rise of "social games" like Farmville, virtual worlds like Club Penguin and portals like Kongregate, there has never been more interest in Flash as a gaming platform. At the same time, applications and websites are increasingly including game mechanics to increase user engagement.

Over the last couple of years I've been on a personal journey to try and improve my craft as a game designer and developer. In this session I'm going to share some of what I've learned along the way.

The session will include an analysis of the high level game mechanics that keep players engaged, and a detailed look at implementation details like control schemes, character movement, 2D cameras, physics and visual effects.

And just in case my energetic explanations aren't enough for you, I will also demonstrate each technique with specially created examples.

Warning: you may receive 10 XP and level-up.
