Linda Brownlee

Bio

Award winning Irish photographer Linda Brownlee is well known for her documentary approach to portraiture and fashion. Linda’s inquisitive nature leads her to create personal and editorial bodies of work that focus on the real and intimate nature of people and their relationship to the environments they inhabit. Personal projects have included her award-winning series The Parkers, an intimate portrait of family life in Hackney and long term project ‘i Zii’ a tender portrayal of family in the Sicilian village of Gangi, self-published and released in October 2016.

Linda made her first foray into directing with the documentary series ‘Limber Notes’, featuring performers of all ages and backgrounds with one thing in common, a passion for dance. Shot in New York, Brussels and London, Linda captures her subjects practicing in their own environments, unconditionally immersed in their dance. She has since worked on a number of diverse moving image projects with Hans Ulrich Obrist, Edie Campbell, and Simone Rocha on ‘Hong Kong Dress’, nominated for 2016’s Milan Fashion Film Festival.

Linda published her first photo book Achill in 2010 and her project Hydrangea Etc was published by AAD in 2014. Her photographs have been exhibited at London’s National Portrait Gallery (2013 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize), the Gallery of Photography in Dublin, the Yinka Shonebare Space, Host Gallery, and the Nottingham Castle Art Gallery. Her work has also travelled with the Photographers Gallery in London.
