Bio

You Jung Byun is an award winning illustrator, author and artist based in New York. She creates detailed pictorials of often isolated characters in fantasy settings held with a tension between comfort and catastrophe.

Her debut book Dream Friends (Penguin Random House) was released to critical acclaim in 2013. She has since illustrated Little Baby Buttercup (Penguin), and Yawn, her first UK picture book (to be published in 2018 by Pavilion).

Byun’s work has been recognized in various magazines, competition and institutions including Wow Film Festival(Korea), Digital Stadium NHK(Japan), Pick Me Up, Communication Arts Magazine, Society of Illustrators, Creative Quarterly, Ai-Ap and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Her client list includes New York Times, Penguin Random House, Nobrow, Disney, Fisher Price, Verizon Wireless, Warby Parker, National Public Radio, Roger la Borde, Rodale, PLANSPONSOR Magazine and more. You Jung also gives lectures and workshops at various institutions around the world. Some of these include: Pictoplasma Conference, Playground Festival, Brooklyn Public Library, The Society of Illustrators/Museum of Illustration, Hongik University, Parsons, Pratt Institute and School of Visual Arts.
